THE LEARNING CONDITIONS FRAMEWORK™

Stronger outcomes begin with the conditions students experience every day.Schools often respond to disappointing outcomes by changing curriculum, adding interventions, increasing accountability, or introducing another initiative. Those strategies matter. But their impact depends on the conditions in which students are being asked to learn. The Learning Conditions Framework™ helps school and system leaders examine those conditions, identify what may be getting in the way of stronger outcomes, and translate what they learn into changes in adult practice and organizational systems.

FOUR CONDITIONS. ONE STUDENT EXPERIENCE.

Students do not experience belonging, academic rigor, school culture, and organizational systems separately. They experience them simultaneously. The framework helps leaders examine four interconnected conditions that shape whether students are positioned to thrive.

Belonging, Identity & Psychological Safety
Students experience relationships and environments where they are known, valued, respected, and safe—and where their identities are affirmed rather than treated as barriers to success.
Intellectual Challenge, Relevance & Agency
Students consistently encounter meaningful and rigorous learning, understand why their work matters, and have opportunities to think, solve, contribute, and exercise meaningful voice.
Dignifying & Joyful Environments
Students experience physical spaces, routines, interactions, and traditions that communicate dignity, possibility, celebration, and care.
Equitable Systems & Adult Responsibility
Policies, practices, resource decisions, expectations, and adult behaviors are examined for their impact on students—especially when different groups of students experience school differently.

Students are responsible for their choices. Adults are responsible for the environments, instruction, relationships, expectations, and systems they create.

Designed for principals, district leaders, charter-network teams, school-improvement leaders, and organizations supporting schools.

This isn't another program to implement. It's a way of seeing the system more clearly before deciding what the system needs.

WHAT ARE YOUR STUDENTS EXPERIENCING?

Your data can tell you what is happening. The Learning Conditions Framework™ helps you investigate why—and what adults can do differently because of it. Whether you're opening a new school, addressing persistent gaps, strengthening school culture, developing leaders, or trying to make an existing improvement strategy work, the starting point is the same: Examine the conditions.

READY TO MOVE FROM STRATEGY TO IMPLEMENTATION?

Whether you're launching a school, strengthening leadership, addressing persistent student-experience gaps, or trying to turn an improvement plan into consistent practice, we can start by identifying the conditions that will make the work successful.
